The current MotoGP concessions system has two deadlines determining manufacturers’ level of concessions for the next six months. One deadline is at the end of the 2025 season, while the other is just before the annual summer break, which will be during the Czech Grand Prix next weekend. Ducati, due to its dominance, is in the ‘A’ category with the fewest concessions. On the other hand, KTM and Aprilia are in the ‘C’ tier, with Honda and Yamaha in the ‘D’ category having open concessions.
The manufacturers above category ‘D’ have sealed engines and restricted testing allowances. Only Aprilia’s concession category could change for the second half of the season based on their performance at the upcoming races. To remain in the ‘C’ category, Aprilia must earn a total of 26 points at the Sachsenring and Brno circuits.
Moving to the ‘D’ category could actually benefit Aprilia in pushing development for their 2025 RS-GP challenger as they are not vying for this season’s championship title. However, the team’s official stance, led by team manager Paolo Bonora, is to strive for upgrading to the ‘B’ or even ‘A’ categories in the future. Aprilia’s aim is to continue growing and progressing through the concessions tier levels with a focus on improvement at the upcoming races. The team narrowly avoided dropping to the ‘D’ category at the end of the 2024 season.
